Dimension 1 – Developing as a professional

There are three main goals need to be achieved for me during this work experience: Problem solving skills, effective teamwork skills and thinking critically skill. From my point of view, I think these three issues are the basic points for any majors; I should develop them before I start my career officially in the future.

Problem Solving Skill

“Problem solving is a systematic process in which concerns are identified, defined, actions taken, and solutions evaluated.” ( QIA, n,d.)

Example:

After I started my Co-Op in the first few weeks, I actually made some mistakes, because the exchange rate of our company is floating rate which means it could be different in any seconds, but when I answered a call from a customer, I forgot to tell him the thing about floating rate, obviously he was not happy when he arrived at our branch. I totally did not know how to solve this conflict, and was afraid to admit my fault. According to this incidence I felt I was not good at problem solving, it is an important skill beside of my major and I must learn how to handle it. When I suffer a conflict next time I will choose to face up the conflict rather than avoid it. I should make apology to customer bravely, consider customers’ interest as my own interest in order to solve the conflict by cooperation. For example, I should offer that customer some discount to get his forgiveness.
