Assessment Details
Due date: All papers are due by 4pm on Wednesday 14 November.
Submission details: Work must be placed in the box at the SOPHI office with the
appropriate philosophy cover sheet attached and the compliance statement signed.
Extensions: Late papers submitted without an extension will not be marked. This
will be strictly enforced as a matter of equity with other students. The only
satisfactory excuses for extensions are illness or misadventure. Pressure of other
work, or computer equipment failure, does not normally count as misadventure. If an
extension is to be granted for reasons of illness, a doctor’s certificate will be required.

Assessment length: The paper should be no more than 2,500 words, comprising two
essays.
Weighting: 50% of your final mark.
Course Material and Further Research: Your answers should be based
predominantly upon concepts and readings from the topics covered in the second half
of the course: lectures seven through to thirteen. You are not required to read beyond
the material discussed in the course lectures and reader, but you may choose to do
further research if you wish. Note that such material will only be valuable insofar as it
furthers your analysis.
Please note that proper academic referencing is required.
Choice of Questions: You may pick any two questions; but be advised that if both of
your answers rely mainly upon very similar arguments and concepts, this will
demonstrate a limited understanding of the course material. You may, however, refer
in your first paper to your discussion of relevant concepts discussed in your second
paper, or vice versa.
