  1 Introduction
Motivation, as one of the most important in human resource management, directly and indirectly influences employees’ satisfaction and productivity. In this chapter, it is about the literature review of IT workers’ motivation system. In the first aspect, it will review the definitions of knowledge workers and IT workers. Through the understanding of these terms, it is to explore the boundaries of IT workers and knowledge workers. Secondly, it is the literature review of the theories of motivation. It will firstly review the understanding of motivation, and then it is to review and make a comparison of different motivation theories including hierocracy of needs theory, two-factor theory, goal-setting theory, expectancy theory and McCelland’s theory of needs. Further, it will review employees’ satisfaction. In the final aspect, it is about the literature of the approaches of motivation. It will compare different motivation systems, and it is to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each motivation approach.

2 Knowledge workers and IT workers
Many scholars have different views on the understanding of knowledge workers. Barney (1991) argued that knowledge workers should, in one hand, use technology and knowledge to enhance work productivity, and in the other hand have strong abilities of learning and creativity. This argument indicated that knowledge workers are workers who use knowledge and information. Garavan (2005) concluded the concept of knowledge workers from his economic research. He defined that knowledge workers are people who create fortune using brain than using hand. He argued that knowledge workers can bring added value to the products through their creation, analysis, judgment and design.......................
