Abstract
The international ecotourism association defines ecotourism in this way: go to natural places on purpose to understand the cultural and natural history; holding the idea of not destroying the integrity of eco-system, try to create opportunities for economic development, meanwhile bring financial benefits to local people with the presupposition of natural resources protection.
Ecotourism is becoming very popular recently all over the world. Encounters with wild animals, be it swimming with dolphins, going on safari or bird watching, are at the core. It emphasizes the motivation of tourists. It takes the nature as the platform, the ecological theory as the guidance, the relaxation, health protection, knowledge pursuing and discovery as the carrier. It always has the http://www.51lu.org/hotelmanagement/purpose of enhancing the sense of environmental protection. It has great importance to environmental protection and environmental education. Actually, as the fastest growing segment of tourism, the world’s largest industry, it has many aspects for people to discuss about and explore. For example, little is known about why people seek out these experiences and the meaning for the ecotour
ism industry, conservation efforts and society at large.
Bird-watching activity originally appeared in Britain and north Europe. It has a history of 200 hundred years. As a fashionable outdoor activity in western countries, bird-watching has become a very important form of ecotourism. It’s an activity full of fun. Visitors to bird watching area have close access to the birds on the island. They can enjoy the nature and various kinds of birds.
Although, Qinghai Lake bird watching has only ten years of history, its unique resources and the scenery attract many visitors. The popularity increased unceasingly. Bird watching activity has brought substantial economic benefits to the local people. For example, in the short 7 days, there are 17,566 people coming to Qinghai Lake to watch birds at golden week of 2008. The income is 2,120,000, and ticket income is 1,560,000. This indicates that Qinghai Lake Bird Watching has a broad prospect for development.
Frankly speaking, bird watching activity may have negative influence on birds on reserve, especially when visitors have unsuitable behaviors on the area. According to the on-spot research, this paper makes an analysis of the bird situation on the Qinghai Lake Bird Island, the visitors’ satisfaction degree as well as their motivations and the island’s management status. Interview with the staff on the island and questionnaire with the visitors are done. All these let us have an insight into the current running situation of this bird island. At the end, suggestions for improvement are given out.
