Intended learning outcomes

1.  Evaluate the purpose of a company's annual report and its relationship with corporate governance regulations both domestically and internationally.
2.  Analyse and interpret company information, both from the stock market and the annual report and have practical knowledge of the applications and have developed a critical understanding of the limitations.
3.  Analyse business problems and apply appropriate decision making, planning and control techniques.
Assignment
You are a member of the financial management team of a newly formed book production company. It is a private company owned mostly by the members of one family. The company has borrowed £10m to finance the new printing and binding facilities that are on an industrial site near to the M4 motorway.
You are preparing for a financial management meeting next week that will set up a system of monitoring and reporting of key information to be used in financial performance assessment of the enterprise, in all its aspects, by senior management.
The matters that will be discussed at the meeting will include the assessment of Financial Accounting Performance – ie. the financial income statement and balance sheet ratios that will be useful – as well as the assessment of Budgetary and Management Accounting performance measures.
You are asked to prepare structured  notes for the meeting that show  your thoughts on what should be monitored as well as how this enterprise will benefit from the performance measures that you consider will be necessary as key indicators in the regular monitoring process. 
The people at the meeting are experienced in matters financial and will expect a discussion that applies any performance measures to concentrate on the affairs of a private company that is engaged in book printing – in other words a set of general textbook principles that do not attempt a discussion of the selected and specific needs of this business will not be sufficient.

1,500 word covering the assignment question. Your structured notes must be in the form of a word processed paper copy with an enclosed electronic copy in word format.
