Now, as I promised I send you some articles that are nicely structured (Tomasello 1997, Jackson 2007). Remember you do not need to understand the topics that are discussed in the articles, just focus on the structure. Then, I received the first questions concerning assignment 1. (Yes it is Friday today). So let me just specify for all of you: You should first determine every sentence's morphological stage and every sentence's syntactic stage. These two stages do not need to be the same. You should use Pienemann's Processability order that you find in his book. The explanations and presentations of the developmental sequences in the Lightbown & Spada book can be helpful, though, because they are more descriptive. But be aware the stages need to be defined according to Processability Theory!!!
When you have defined every single sentence' morphological and syntactic stage (that is you need to give two stages for every sentence!), then you will look at the learners WHOLE production and you will define on what stage he is syntactically and on what stage he is morphologically. If you can discuss why he is or is not at the same stage in morphology and syntax and if you can report what Pienemann has to say about that and if you can discuss if this makes sense or not it will be very nice. All these extra-discussions are not mandatory but they will give you additional points which can be helpful if you missed some points in other parts of the assigment.
 
Finally let me remind you: It is pivotal that you do READ the course literature. I tried to be as explicit as I could in the course and I tried to give you the tools to understand the literature. But just relying on my power points and on our discussions in class will not be enough! Again: if you want to pass this course unit succesfully you need to read AT LEAST the obligatory chapters and articles.
