The anthropologist Arjun Appadurai suggests that we are living in a world in which the relations between location and affiliation are being redrawn and that this can be seen partially through the expression of multiple forms of citizenship. Our mental geography, and consequent identities, he suggests, are no longer strongly attached to ideologies of nationalism. Using examples from lecture and readings, discuss the ways in which transnational processes both support and challenge
Appadurai’s claim.

However, nationalism has formed a worldwide wave once again, accompanied with the development of globalization, showing the unique features of antagonism. This essay attempts to use lecture and readings learned in courses to critically analyze Arjun Appadurai's point of view.
